colour crush : Chanel's paint palette

colour crush : Chanel, spring 2014 rtw | Emma Lamb

I'm feeling totally inspired by this gorgeous paint palette style print from Chanel's Spring-Summer 2014, ready-to-wear collection. Isn't it amazing!? A rainbow of colours straight off a paint brush, just like those little carefree doodles we do in our sketchbooks when testing colours. Those little doodles are mini works of art in themselves and this print is such a beautiful way to celebrate the idea of creative expression. This abstract design actually comes from an antique 1900s paint chart making those brush marks over 100 years old! I wonder if the paint swatches in the original chart are as vibrant and candy coloured as this print?

I love how Lagerfeld has put it to work in these designs and on different fabric qualities. It looks so ethereal on the billowy gauzy fabrics yet so dramatic on the opaque, like a child has been let loose with their crayon box! The play on the abstract theme by manipulating the fabrics with crimps, pleats and ruffles is just gorgeous! It's a total riot of colour but done so elegantly and effortlessly. It makes me want to play with paint...

colour crush : Boden's seasonal styling

Autumn styling at Boden | Emma Lamb

Lately I've been loving the wee Boden catalogues that have been dropping through my letterbox. The styling for some of their autumn and winter collections is just so pretty and full of gorgeous colour inspiration.

For part of their autumn collection they've used a fabulous old English country house with it's colourful and eclectic decor to complement the intense jewel tones of their clothes. How gorgeous are those painted lamp stands with vintage shades!? And the bold turquoise painted woodwork makes me think of Farrow & Ball's Arsenic colour. Love it! I feel so tempted to paint my studio door in this colour as it seems so full of energy. I think that's why I'm drawn to these shots, the colour in them is just so energetic and upbeat.

Some of their winter styling on the other hand is a complete contrast, much cooler and calmer. Apart from a few pops of on trend brights - jade green and a wee hint of shocking pink - this palette is much more neutral as you would expect for winter. The colours I've picked out are by no means cold though, they are warm winter neutrals. Warm creams and greys with a hint of peach and sludgy olive green (I love this coat too), along with the touch of indigo they contrast so well with the pop colours of jade and pink making them zing. I feel really inspired by this combination right now.

Which do you prefer, the warm winter neutrals or the eclectic autumn brights? I know I like to wear those autumn colours but much prefer to surround myself with the neutrals.

colour crush : Orla's winter wardrobe

Orla Kiely, Autumn Winter 2013 / favourites picked by Emma Lamb
All images: Orla Kiely

Oh, I do love Orla Kiely's gorgeous new womenswear collection for the coming autumn and winter. The colours are just perfect, a wee bit vintage-retro in the black, red, ochre, soft tea rose pink and coffee combination but with pops of shocking pink to keep it current. Exactly what you would expect from Orla. There are the familiar signature Orla prints and dress shapes alongside some lovely autumnal textures including velvet and that sweet quilted flower design. Oh, and how fab is the pink cable knit dress!? I love the hint of a woodland theme too with the occasional squirrel appearing on a few knitwear pieces but above all that the thing I love most about this collection is that it was partly inspired by Margot Tenenbaum, a fabulous fictional character from The Royal Tenenbaums played by Gwyneth Paltrow. Such a great character and a film that is in regular rotation on my 'while I crochet' list, love it!

colour crush : Orla Kiely's spring / summer 2013 lookbook

gorgeous colours from Orla Kiely's spring / summer 2013 lookbook | Emma Lamb

This week I'm certainly craving more uplifting and energising colours. The warm sunny days we've had recently have stirred those long buried spring feelings and after Monday's inspiring 'making everyday beautiful' favourites I'm on the look out for more fresh colours. There are some particularly lovely palettes over at Orla Kiely in the sneak peek spring/summer 2013 lookbook. A great mix of bold crayon colours including emerald green, sunshine yellow, coral pink, cobalt blue and scarlet, all done in Orla's signature style...

My favourite combination is in my 'spring florals' collage. I love that emerald dress with the white peter pan collar and the 'Big Spot Flower Shadow' print, in the dress and coat on the ends, is so lovely. See it better here. I'm loving the wee red dress in 'cobalt & scarlet' too, so cute! Oh, and I want this bag soooo badly...

designer maker : Cozy Memories by Sonia Cantie

I've been trying to figure out how long I've been an admirer of my lovely friend Sonia, her wonderful nature photography and beautiful handmade work. Not to mention her fabulous cat, Gary (he is a star and certainly no stranger to this blog!). I know I've been following her beautiful Flickr pages for a few years now, but for the last year or more I have been able to get to know her a wee bit better through Facebook and follow her eco-friendly business label, Cozy Memories, as it grows and develops...
