good reads : my Spring Fling Flower Mandala for Crochet Gifts + a giveaway | Emma Lamb

Hello my lovelies! Yes indeed, I have some very exciting news for you today about a gorgeous new crochet design - my Spring Fling Flower Mandala! You can find it in the current issue of Crochet Gifts along with a wee interview from me too. Double yay!

Do you remember back in February when I was playing around with some lovely linen yarn from Yarn Stories but being super secretive about what I was working on!? Well this was that project. I was in utter mandala heaven making my own spring loveliness and now that the pattern is finally here you guys can have a go too. Triple yay!

Crochet Gifts is a relatively new quarterly bookazine from Practical Publishing, this is only the third issue. And as they are fairly new it may be a little tricky to track down a copy locally but if you hop on over to their online shop you can find a few copies here, they do ship internationally and at a very reasonable price too! Of course if you would like to chance your luck I do have a spare copy to giveaway ;)

All you need to do to be in with a chance of winning a copy of Crochet Gifts is to share the image below then come back here and leave a wee note in the comments telling me about your favourite spring crochet projects and patterns or your favourite mandala projects and why you love crocheting them so much! This was my first foray into mandala crocheting and now I know why people love making them so much. So addictively therapeutic!

91Magazine Craft Special, January 2014 / includes a Nordic inspired crochet pincushion pattern by Emma Lamb

As you know 91Magazine is one of my favourite magazines (digital or otherwise!) which is one of the reasons why I am so excited about this gorgeous 'craft special' that Caroline has pulled together so beautifully. It is packed full of her gorgeous sense of colour and style that I especially adore and it is choc full of fabulous crafty diy projects to help you beat the January blues...

"It's that dreary month of January, I'm sure it's most people's least favourite month of the year. Everyone's broke after Christmas and it's cold and dark outside. Well! We've decided to try and remedy this problem with our brand new issue of 91 Magazine! It is our first ever Craft Special, as we thought it's the perfect time to stay indoors and get making and also with the new year, it's time to try out some new things!"

Included are a whole host of gorgeous projects from dottie angel's cute knitted bunting (pictured on the cover) to an origami vase by Hege Morris and a chair makeover by Jess Payne. Amongst the crafty how-to's there are plenty of lovely articles to inspire you too. A peek into the lovely home of Leigh Metcalf, a few highlights from London's Renegade craft Fair and a wee look at a couple of vintage fairs from around the UK. Oh and possibly best of all |(I'm being totally biased here!) that little Nordic pincushion I mentioned in the title of this post! Yes, my contribution to this very special crafty issue of 91Magazine is a pattern for this sweet pincushion! I do hope you love crocheting it as much as I loved creating it for you and 91Magazine?

shoptalk : Emilia Flower Garland, the pattern

emma lamb

Hello, hello!

Goodness this week is hurtling by! Not that that's a bad thing because I seem to be in 'achieving mode' this week with lots of behind the scenes kinda stuff. Mostly finishing projects and tying up the loose ends of 2013 before the holidays start; getting on top of the Christmas shopping and dare I say it starting to plan for 2014! Okay so most of you will probably have started your 2014 planning already, especially if you're running your own small business, but with the last few months I've had here it feels like an epic achievement for me! I feel so excited about it all too. My creativity has been in such a slump lately with my motivation being thwarted at every available opportunity. But it's time to put that aside, take a rest and gather my thoughts over the holidays before diving headlong into that plan! I know I've been hinting at new things for months now but you know, stuff got in the way. Now it's time to just bloody well get on with it and get it done!

With that said, here's something kinda new for you...

Emilia Flower Garland, crochet pattern by Emma Lamb
£4.00, via Ravelry

I am sure some of you will recognise my Emilia Flower Garland design from Mollie Makes earlier this year, but now I can offer you all my spiffy new PDF version. Yay! I popped it into my Etsy, Ravelry and Folksy shops late last night - note that if you purchase it from Etsy and Ravelry you will be able to download your PDF immediately, however if you purchase through Folksy I will need to email you with a PDF attachment. On, and if you purchase via the handy wee 'buy now' button above that is also via Ravelry, the same as the other 'buy now' links in my pattern page.

As I mentioned this PDF went live late last night and I woke up this morning to lots of sales already (thank you so much everyone!) as well as some super lovely feedback left on my Facebook page...

"I just bought and downloaded the Emilia flower garland pdf pattern and I must say - I am blown away. It's just beautiful to look at, fabulous photos, easy to follow and just all round pretty. Love love love."

This has totally made my day because I worked so hard on this little PDF and I am so proud of it! I do hope you love it too?

shoptalk : the fun of making

A custom Merry Mobile in the works | Emma Lamb

Happy Friday everyone!

Again I find myself wishing that your week has been far better than mine! After the hideous flu bug of last week, this week it's a broken boiler meaning goodness knows how long without heating or hot water. It seems life has a wee bit of shit to throw my way right now, not as much shit as this lady is having to deal with this week, but still - ugh!

All sorts of fun happening on my desk this week | Emma Lamb

So while everything else is going totally cattywampus I am retreating into my studio to play amongst my pretty yarns! I must admit that over the last few weeks the crochet hasn't been going well at all, too many distractions I think. The aforesaid nonsense combined with too may ideas and too many possibilities all juggling around in my grey matter vying for attention. When my mind is racing from one thought to another every few seconds it's difficult to slow it down to focus on what I have in my hands at that moment. Even though I know what I want to do with it my motivation and energy is being sucked up by all these thoughts.

A trio of pincushions added to my shops this week | Emma Lamb

I have achieved one or two things this week so it does feel like thing's might be coming into focus just a wee bit. A few garlands and pincushions have been finished and added to my Etsy shop and Folksy shop shelves, so that's a wee tick off the epic to do list. Phew! I also have a lovely custom mobile project that needs to be completed over the weekend which I'm hoping will help me to focus even more. I so need to get back into a rhythm of being less distracted and to do that I need to do more and think a little less. It's time to stop pondering all the possibilities and remind myself of the fun of just making.

Garlands and pincushions agogo! | Emma Lamb

So that's my plan for this weekend, to just have fun making and forget about all that nonsense!

studio details : a snapshot of my day

emma lamb

Hello my lovelies! Today my day is looking a lot like this...

studio details : a snapshot of my day | Emma Lamb

It's been a quiet day mostly spent in my pjs, tinkering with crochet flowers and organising my FB page (organising photo albums to be precise and inadvertently deleting dozens of pictures, ho-hum) while I waited in for delivery of my new toy - a spiffy new laptop. Yay!

I am so excited about getting this thing up and running so I can faff around with it's super speedy touch screen. I haven't upgraded my work computer for years so more than anything I'm hoping for looking forward to being able to have more than two programs open at once without feeling like I've just dunked it in a pot of treacle and to no more powering off tantrums! Needless to say there are going to be a few hours of software installing and I'm expecting the inevitable 'why won't it talk to my wifi' debacle! But at least I have my crochet hooks to keep my sanity intact... well, mostly.
