colour crush : Urban Oufitters geometric rugs

colour crush : Urban Oufitters geometric rugs | Emma Lamb

I'm still sorting through Lake District photos so today I want to share these colourful geometric rugs from Urban Outfitters that caught my eye recently...

I'm always on the look out for these kind of printed cotton rugs because when you live with a Cocker Spaniel whose fluffy pre-haircut paws are like sponges for mud and muck you need something you can chuck in the washing machine easily. I know you're not supposed to wash them but if you don't mind a wee bit of shrinkage they are ideal for Spaniel homes!

Today I'm especially loving these four for their colours and am thinking the point rug above would go perfectly in my bedroom with my new floral sheets. Don't you think so too? The more of you that agree the better I may be able to convince my Man, ha!

And these three below? Well there's definitely more of those intense indigo / sapphire blues I also seem to have my eye on right now. Remember my Hedgehog Fibres picks from last week? Yum! I am absolutely adoring them combined with the warm peachy tones and soft greys in the Chevron Flip rug below. Such an amazing combination! That one I'm thinking would look great under my studio desk ;)

colour crush : Joules Ruby blooms

colour crush : Joules Ruby blooms | Emma Lamb

Talking of fabrics and beautiful prints I am completely head over heels for my new duvet cover and pillowcases from Joules range of floral bedding. They are just so totally me! All those stunning colours - bright red, hot pink, ochre and mustard with teal greens and blue set against a crisp white background. Oh yeah! I've always had a soft spot for their vintage style, splodgy floral prints and this yummyness is from their Ruby Floral collection.

Yesterday was the first day in weeks we've had lovely sunshine and blue skies over Edinburgh and although I purposefully picked a double duvet cover to use over the summer months I couldn't wait to see how this beauty would look in the sunshine. So yesterday morning while it was bright and beautiful and the sun was streaming through the window I popped it on the bed and stood back to admire these beautiful blooms in all their glory! I can't wait to be waking up to these on bright sunny Sunday mornings, having breakfast in bed and crocheting a couple of hours away amongst this loveliness. The colours are so uplifting and I can't help but smile when I see them. Sheets that totally make me happy!

And do you know what else I am most chuffed about!? How well my little Yvonne cushion cover matches, the colours are almost identical! You'd be forgiven for thinking that I had just crocheted her to match these sheets even though she came of my hook nearly three years ago and the yarns I used were a thifty find, colours that were discontinued ten years ago! Definitely a timeless colour combination for me.

Can't say my wee man is quite so chuffed about the new sheets as I am though. Ain't no way he's getting on the bed with these beauties, don't care how pleading those big brown eyes are. So not happening! It'll happen.

colour crush : Chanel's paint palette

emma lamb

colour crush : Chanel, spring 2014 rtw | Emma Lamb

I'm feeling totally inspired by this gorgeous paint palette style print from Chanel's Spring-Summer 2014, ready-to-wear collection. Isn't it amazing!? A rainbow of colours straight off a paint brush, just like those little carefree doodles we do in our sketchbooks when testing colours. Those little doodles are mini works of art in themselves and this print is such a beautiful way to celebrate the idea of creative expression. This abstract design actually comes from an antique 1900s paint chart making those brush marks over 100 years old! I wonder if the paint swatches in the original chart are as vibrant and candy coloured as this print?

I love how Lagerfeld has put it to work in these designs and on different fabric qualities. It looks so ethereal on the billowy gauzy fabrics yet so dramatic on the opaque, like a child has been let loose with their crayon box! The play on the abstract theme by manipulating the fabrics with crimps, pleats and ruffles is just gorgeous! It's a total riot of colour but done so elegantly and effortlessly. It makes me want to play with paint...

colour crush : Pompom's spring dreams

colour crush : Pompom's spring dreams / Pompom Quarterly, Issue 8: Spring 2014 / photography by Juju Vail / via Emma Lamb

Talking of grown-up purples, Pompom Quarterly have totally nailed it with the styling for their new spring issue. Magenta and radiant orchid hair!? Omg, yes! Purple hair paired with Pompom's pretty spring knits collection in bold aqua, dazzling blue, freesia yellow and delicate lilac makes for some really fresh and fun grown up styling. Very pretty, especially with the hand drawn spring flower and butterfly details!

Lately I'm loving intense yellows, in mid-winter they're so uplifting, but I know I could never pull off wearing this colour in any great amount, I'm way too pasty! (That's pasty not a pasty!) Although I really do like the yellow lace knit trim on the Brill shawl below, it's such a great idea for adding just a touch of this yummy colour. I'm also loving the Aroha shawl above, that elongated shape is perfect for lightweight spring scarves and wraps. Definitely going on my 'making-just-for-the-love-of-it' to-do list this month... I can't wait to get my hands on a copy of this issue!

colour crush : Ferm Living's festive style

emma lamb

Seasonal colour inspiration from the X-MAS collection by Ferm Living, colour palette curated by Emma Lamb

It's not often I pick out such neutral tones as part of my 'today I'm loving' column but lately I'm finding these to be far more appealing than bright colours. Maybe it's just because I'm craving calm amongst the chaos, or possibly reflecting the paint colours I'm working with this week - wintry white and cool grey?

Either way the festive styling over at Ferm Living is totally pushing my buttons! All those cool greys with tiny hints of warm pink, ochre and brown are just lovely. I love the black details too, especially on this amazing Christmas tree - so non traditional and so perfectly styled! Once I get my studio back to normal in a week or so, it will be in for a wee spot of festive decorating and this will definitely be my inspiration!
