Yesterday afternoon after spending almost an hour standing in the Post Office queue (!) I decided to treat myself to a wee visit to a local pop-up shop. Ziggy Aeroplane
is a lovely wee collaboration between Fiona Purves of Paper Aeroplane
and Amy Dolan of Ziggy Sawdust
, and their idea was to set up a special event to celebrate their first year in business.
I've been lucky enough to meet lovely Fiona a few times before at local craft fairs, but it was so lovely to spend a little more time chatting with her yesterday. She told me this whole idea came about after she spotted Amy's Facebook post about the big first year milestone for her business, the timing was perfect as Fiona had the very same milestone approaching in the same month! After sending a first tentative email, something between Fiona and Amy just clicked and their idea for a pop-up shop collaboration began to gain momentum.
To fund the project they set up a Kickstarter page
and, with the help of some friends, made the sweetest video to promote their campaign. If you're in Edinburgh today you will be able to catch on the big BBC screen on Lothian Road, something Fiona finds incredibly surreal!
So far the pop-up shop has been a huge success for these two ladies and they are excited about the interest and enthusiasm for their work. If you haven't been to see them yet you can find them at the Whitespace gallery
, Gayfield Square, until 6.30pm tonight. I highly recommend you do pop along if you can.
